October Part 2: Lara, Greg, and Julia Visit

This is Brian speaking, please keep your hands, arms, and legs inside the post at all times. This could get bumpy.

In mid-October, my sister Lara (The second funniest Saville. There are rumors that she's the funniest, but the jury is still out.) came into town with her husband, Greg, and her oldest daughter, Julia. They came for a wedding of a family friend that somehow their relationship to them sounded like the premise for a soap opera or a mafia connection. Unfortunately, that meant they had an extremely busy weekend out in Utah with the wedding shenanigans and also trying to meet up with friends and/or family. Fortunately for us, we made it on the list, and they all met us at Gabe's flag football tournament (more on that later, meaning a future post).

Julia decided that since they were dressed up for the wedding, it would be extremely awkward to go out to watch Gabe play around a lot of non-dressed up people. Lara said no one would even notice, but eventually just let her stay in the car. Sadly, someone did notice and commented on it, so we couldn't even hold that over Julia's head at all.

In between games, we ventured back to their car to see Julia. On the walk over, we couldn't help but be reminded of touring Europe again since it was just our family plus Lara and Greg. Especially since Rachel and Gabe immediately gravitated to Greg.

We found Julia in the parking lot and took a picture of us all together. I'd like to think that I'm standing up a step from Julia, but I'm not convinced I am. She got the Saville genes for sure. Upside: beauty. Downside: short.

These girls are only about 10 months apart. Maybe as Rachel grows up a little more her hair will turn colors as well?

During Gabe's last game, a storm blew in, quite literally. The temperature dropped 15-20 degrees and the wind started blowing really hard. On the drive home it started raining and blowing even more. I mean, it usually blows hard by our house but this was next level. The next morning, we surveyed the damage...

In reality, this big green tree/bush that went down was growing alongside the purple tree/bush. We actually thought it was all part of a single tree until they were different colors, so nature just fixed that problem for us.

We also lost a big section of another bush and random other branches. Thankfully, none of our largest trees were affected at all.

I cut these all up a couple of days later (hence why the weather looks nice) and documented the process for fun. Here's the damage from another angle. This cost us 10s of cents to fix, it was pretty extensive.

Now back to the business at hand. Greg and Julia headed home Sunday morning or so, but Lara stayed for a couple more days, so naturally we had the whole Utah family over to hang out. Shayne, Danny, and Michael were really ecstatic about the whole thing.

On Monday, Devri fortunately (for me, not so much for her) offered to run the kids so I could go spend time with my sisters down at Mom and Dad's house. Shayne, unfortunately, had to work. Since he's working on a house near their house, we decided to drop in and he gave us a quick tour.

The house looks fantastic, and hopefully looks even better now.

Lara stayed in town to do a couple of Oboe (she is a professor at Georgia State University) masterclasses at BYU and UVU, so we headed up to BYU in the afternoon. Here we are at one of the universities. I honestly don't remember which one, they both have hallways like this.

Lara's masterclasses were fun to watch (at least what I was able to catch of them). I had some work meetings and tried to get some things done during each of them, but it was really awesome to see her work and be in her element. She's pretty incredible, and I'm so grateful she's my sister.

Pop quiz: what happens when you get at least 3 Savilles together and don't get dinner until very, very late? You guessed it, hangry issues! Actually, it wasn't too bad, but I do remember being really starving during that last masterclass. I don't know how Lara and Mom survived. After unsuccessfully trying to hit up some places that were already closed, we ended up at Chili's and had a great time chatting late into the night. Probably too late, poor Devri.

Since Lara was leaving Tuesday afternoon, we decided to all get together for one last hurrah at Aubergine. Including Devri, but excluding Shayne. Not on purpose, he just didn't want to come. Or couldn't. Whatever, he made his choices.

Still short, but I love her!

Apparently she likes me too.

Thanks for making so much time for your family, Lara, we loved having you all in town!
