Alisa and Jared led us from the redwoods, back up into Oregon, and over to the coast. The kids changed into swimming suits in the car, and we headed down to the water, but the view from the hill was amazing.
The water was freezing, and the air temperature wasn't balmy either, but the kids can't come to such a glorious body of water without betting into it. .
I did get my feet wet, but mostly we just chatted while sitting on a log. Oh, and we took a ton of pictures.
We walked the beach a little and Jared pointed out a tide pool.
The kids built a shelter and mostly played in the sand.
All too soon, the sun set, and we needed to leave.
Rachel was cold, but covered in sand, and so I tried to get her rinsed off in the water, but she was so cold it was really difficult. I put her on a log so we could put her shoes back on, but then the tide came in even higher and knocked the log that we though was safe out from under us. It smacked into me, and somehow, I managed not to completely drop Rachel into the waves, but by this point, she was pretty miserable, and my leg hurt really bad. Everyone else had already headed to the car because this wasn't supposed to take this long, but it did. I tried to cheer Rachel up as we climbed back up the hill, but she was still pretty upset.
I think I had her laughing by the time we got to the top, but I'm kind of thinking that maybe I didn't. We got back to the van, and she changed back into her dry clothes. We fed her (and the rest of us), and things got better. We arrived back to Alisa's house late again, but it was totally worth it. We all loved the Oregon Coast, even if it was cold!
