October 2021 Part 3: Michael's Birthday

I don't know how it happened, but Michael turned 12 in October. TWELVE! I took our classic "last night of being ____" photo, and Brian photobombed it.

So, here's the last day of being 11!

It's amazing how this mama heart can been both excited and sad at the same time watching these amazing people grow!
Since his birthday was a Saturday, we started the day off with presents before running off to soccer games!

Brian and I made these shirts for him.

We decided it was time he had a suit again.

We told him that was all...some clothes. He took it graciously, though I know he was probably disappointed. And then we pulled out the big gun.

He's been wanting some kind of electric thing since it seems like half the neighborhood has something like it. We didn't want to get something that would break right away, so this was a big buy.

He was pretty excited. Here he is with our next door neighbor, Alva.

And he gave his siblings a ride.

He didn't want cake for his birthday, requesting cookie bars instead. I applaud the decision.

The next day, he got to wear his new suit, and I think he rode his scooter to church.

And Gabe took the opportunity to ride his bike around.

I'm so proud of this boy. He's so kind and tender hearted. He is good at seeing when someone is sad and then cheering them up. He has such a great sense of humor. He's fiercely independent, sometimes to a fault. He has an incredible zeal for life, and he's never been one to shy away from something new. He always jumps in with both feet.

This year was a birthday party year, and he wanted to do an arcade party, so we went to All Star Entertainment. They played on the bumper cars.

Ate Pizza

Opened presents (it always surprises me how excited the guests are for presents at kid's parties because I always think they're going to be jealous of what the birthday kid receives, but they're always just excited to see how the birthday kid likes it).

Played Laser Tag,

Rode on the carousel,

Played on the arcades, picked out prizes, and then we headed home. The planning was minimal and everyone had a good time.

Michael, we truly are proud of you. Never forget that you have everything that counts in spades. We love you!
