December 2018: Part 5: Christmas Card

Our Dear Family and Friends,

This year, the Saville family got bigger (in girth units, not people units), faster (Gabe), and better (let’s just go with it). We went through a huge voluntary remodel of our upstairs (which we were very excited about), and an involuntary smaller remodel of our downstairs after the upstairs project literally overflowed. Our pride and core moral values also took a serious hit as we decided it was time to get a dog (breed: Yorkie Poo, name: Gracie) and a van (breed: Toyota, name: Helen). It’s for the children, people, and we’re mostly not ashamed to admit it.

In the summer time we went to Texas for the Saville family get together. Some might wonder why one would voluntarily go to one of the hottest places on earth in the summertime, but it was ok, it was June when it’s usually still nice there. Usually. (5 points to anyone who noticed the “usually” the first time). With that said, we spent most of time at an incredible water park and in the air conditioned house.

After our remodeling days were behind us, we realized it was so much fun that we decided to do the same thing to Devri’s parents’ house. We spent quite a few weekends and/or weeks in the fall packing up their house and then tearing the entire thing apart. Demolition days are sometimes just as exciting and for some reason not as quick as HGTV makes it seem.

Michael (age: 109 months) has had an extremely busy year full of reading, soccer, legos, and crafting. He started in the Advanced Learning Lab program at a new school, where everything moves faster. He has had to figure out how to work hard in school (something he’s never had to do before). He is constantly creating new planes, battleships, or aircraft carriers out of legos/cardboard/metric ton of tape.

Rachel (age: 303 weeks) spends almost all of her time talking or dancing and singing, often all at the same time. She performed in a musical for kids, danced as a caterpillar and a bat, and is constantly holding her own dance parties in our basement (by invitation only). She is now in kindergarten and has been reading everything she can find (especially anything involving princesses) with reckless abandon. While not princessing, she stays busy by using reams of paper to write notes and draw pictures for her friends (i.e. the entire world).

Gabe (age: 937 days) spent the year learning more ways to grunt and growl like a bear cub, running everywhere (while saying “so fast”), and talking up a storm. Two-years-old is still the cutest age, but he is definitely living up the “terrible twos” and doing his part to keep us on constant high alert. However, he continues to kill with his smile and his more-than-any-other-kid-of-ours cuddles.

Devri (age: old soul) spent 50% of her time with her photography business, 25% of her time teaching piano, 25% of her time on Halloween costumes, and the other 50% with our children. She even took a much-needed escape to Washington DC to see the sights and take pictures for her friend. She constantly serves, and still puts up with me, which is a win in any book I think.

Brian (age: I can never remember) had some major breakthroughs on his new team (still at Adobe) and truly enjoyed work. He loved playing games with the kids, watching lots of movies, programming more (for fun), and trying to decide how to make Devri’s latest plan/scheme/heist happen. He even traveled to India (business trip), and was mildly excited for it (20 hours of plane flights - why?).

Big thanks to all of our friends and family for making us who we are! We love you and miss you! Next year we have one goal: that the house and the dog survive another year with Gabe. Also, to never do yoga.

Love,

Brian, Devri, Michael, Rachel, and Gabe Saville
