December 2018 Part 3: Lighting the World through Service

We wanted to do a humanitarian project this year, and so I decided to make fleece blankets for the pediatric unit at our local hospital. We got remnants of fleece from Joann Fabrics. The kids went with me to pick some out. And since I collect these remnants whenever fleece is on sale (which makes them 50% off whatever the sale price is), we had enough between my stash and my new acquisitions to invite some friends over to help.
Scooby's nice Gingher scissors made me realize that mine desperately need to be sharpened.

We started the tradition of having our kids make presents for each other a few years ago. Here is Rachel, hard at work on a special "Why I love You, Michael" book. She couldn't wait to work on it after Kindergarten got out. It turned out rather sweet with her little handwritten notes and pictures filling the pages.
Gabe and I made these necklaces for Rachel:

And Michael and Brian made Gabe a dinosaur puzzle that I don't have a picture of for some reason.

I spent November and December making PJ pants for everyone, and Brian designed the shirts. Our neighbor served us by letting us use her heat press at 11 p.m. one night.
We took the kids to pick out presents for a Sub for Santa Family, but we didn't deliver them to the family this year.

Brian is constantly serving me and our family by tackling sinks full of dishes.
During one of the storms, our neighbor, Scott, was out with his snowblower before we even had a chance to get dressed. He's so good at keeping us dug out each year, and we are so grateful.
We made sugar cookies. You might say we served the kids by making this happen, and that we served our taste buds, but the truth is, that is a stretch, and I just really like making sugar cookies, especially in December.
I love how we all get right in there:

And we all LOVE sugar cookies.
Brian and I had some fun decorating after the kids were done and in bed.

And we got a little creative towards the end:

Do you see the gingerbread with the broken, bloody leg. Yeah....it was late.
We did share these with my piano students and Lea, who I had to assure that there was not chocolate in these cookies, just brown food coloring.

We delivered Wrapping Paper and Tape to almost everyone in the neighborhood, and we were showered with goodies and gifts throughout the entire month. Our hearts were warm with looking for ways to serve, and I hope that our efforts helped Light the World and bring the Light of the World into the hearts of our family, neighbors, and even a few random strangers.
