May 2021, Part 5 and June 2021 Part 1: Memorial Day weekend in Idaho

We headed to Idaho for Memorial Day Weekend to help my mom with some projects, to visit her,  my grandparents, and four of my five siblings, and to recharge mentally the way you only can by visiting Idaho. We swung through Ogden on our way up to pick up Amber, and everyone was surprised when she showed up with us. Rachel loved spending the weekend with her cousin.
My brothers were there building a run for the new chicken coop, and David and Brian worked on making laying boxes for it. We were all pretty excited when the coop was all done, and we got to bring the chickens into their new home. Have I ever mentioned how much I love chickens? Chelsea and I were responsible for our chickens growing up, and we both have a deep love for this silly, wonderful birds. They're one of the reasons why I'm not a huge fan of eating chicken.

We went to church on Sunday and I had Brian drive by Ririe's city park so the kids could see the old Naval gun there. Michael was over the moon.

It's kind of funny really. I grew up with this and was never terribly impressed. I would have preferred swings or playground equipment in this, the only city park, and I always thought this thing was lame by comparison.

My mom, Emily, Taryn, and I decorated Dad's grave for Memorial Day.

We figure Dad would appreciate our silliness.

Someone took pity on our group picture attempts and took one of all of us.

There are so many times I wish that Rachel had a sister, but it just wasn't in the cards. I loved sharing a room with Chelsea growing up. We'd talk and talk at night, constantly getting in trouble for it because we were supposed to be sleeping. I guess the next best thing to a sister is a girl cousin your age. I love it whenever Rachel and Amber can be together, especially when it's an overnighter, or, in this case, a weekender. It's the only thing that comes close. I was so glad that Chelsea let us take Amber with us for this trip.

Even if it meant that Aaron had to be the third wheel a little bit. Good thing that he also gets along with Michael.

We all loved these chickens!

And we got to see brand new baby birds. I shouldn't mention that Maggie, Mom's dog also loved these birds and chickens, and she sadly played a little too hard with one of the chickens and possibly all of these baby birds.

We stayed a few extra days after everyone else left, and we were all excited to try out Mom's new 0-point turn lawn mower.

We headed back home on June 1, stopping to say goodbye to Grandpa on our way out of town.

We all had so much fun at Grandma's that some of us fell asleep on the way home.

It's now January. I'm cold and the world looks so dead, and I'm missing mowing the lawn, watching chickens peck, jacket-less days, and quiet walks to the Snake River at night. I always love visiting Idaho, especially during the warm months. Good thing we ended up making 3 more trips to Idaho that summer, huh? Could someone please actually make teleportation a thing?
