May brought us a great deal of dance activity! At the beginning of the month, we navigated our second competition, and it was so fun watching the girls do so well again.
We got to attend the Company Showcase for her studio, and it was AMAZING! It was also the last time we got to see her two competition dances, and I may have gotten a little choked up seeing how much she has grown this dance year, and I was excited to see where she could go while watching the older teams.
This lyrical dance was to a cover of "Lean on Me" and it was just so beautiful.
Her jazz dance was to "Live Your Life" by MIKA.
Here she is with her Turning Elite (the team she was on) coach, Miss Sarah. We loved working with Miss Sarah this year!
It was so fun that both grandmas could come cheer her on.
The very next day, she had her ballet showcase in the morning. Her ballet class got to be cats and dance to a piece from Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty (the one that plays when Maleficent is leading Aurora up the stairs to the spinning wheel in Disney's Sleeping Beauty).
Again, it was fun to watch the older, more advanced dancers. A friend of mine who is more familiar with dance than I told me to pay attention to the older girls and how they dance because that gives you a good idea of what the studio is capable of. At the little shows they did back in December, Brian and I were kind of nervous about this studio, but they completely redeemed themselves at the Company and Ballet showcases. We breathed a sigh of relief!
A couple of hours after the ballet showcase, it was time for the Studio Recital. Apparently, they don't normally put all three shows on the same weekend, but this year was weird due to Covid. It was a long day for everyone, and a little bit stressful, but Rachel did so well.
Her tap class danced to the song "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton, and I was once again impressed with her growth. Her tap number from last year was a bit of a mess, once again, thanks to Covid.
I don't remember what her class jazz number was set to, but I was impressed watching her. She just lights up the stage! They wore the same costume they used for her competition dance, but it was a completely different number. They always put the best dancers up front, and I was so excited to see her in the front on most of these dances!
Rachel had so much fun in her hip hop number. It makes me laugh how much she loves hip hop. This was her first year trying it out. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, she improved SO much since December!!! The growth this year has been incredible.
