June 2023 Part 7: Englands to the Rescue!

I'm guessing a week after Chelsea came, Taryn and David came for a couple of nights (or maybe just one?). We always love having cousins come and play.  

After getting the kids to bed, Taryn, David, Brian and I played games. Around 11:30, Gabe came downstairs complaining about not feeling well, and we were all shocked to see his face. His face was swollen under his eye, which was also super crusty. His lip was really swollen, and he just didn't look very well at all. 

He had gotten a filling on a tooth earlier, and he accidentally bit his lip while it was numb. We pulled up his lip to look, and we were shocked so see a big puss pocket under the skin in his lip. Combined with his swollen eye, we all looked at each other, and then Brian and I said, "Well, I think we're going to the hospital. You're in charge." 

"Yup!" Taryn and David immediately agreed. 

So, we headed to the E.R. Poor Gabe was tired and miserable. We waited and waited for the doctor, and then he finally came in. He was surprised by the obvious infections. He said that the infections don't generally jump from one side of the face to the other, but it was highly suspicious to have two infections in the face that weren't related. Since one was so close to the eye, he decided to start Gabe on steroid shots and antibiotics right then and there. 

After getting his shots, we got to take him home and finally get him back in bed. We followed up with Gabe's pediatrician a few days later, and he agreed that the ER physician made the right call. We don't mess with infections that close to the brain! Thankfully, the antibiotics cleared up the infections right away. 

Meanwhile, Rachel lost another tooth. 

And Rachel and Abby matched pajamas (pretty sure my mom made both of these nightgowns the same year, and Abby's was originally made for Evie). 

David helped Brian put a couple of our lockers together, which was incredibly helpful since it took Brian, David, me, and even Taryn to get one set glued and clamped. 

We were so grateful that Taryn and David were at our house that weekend so that we could just go to the ER without worrying about our other kids. Michael could have handled it, but it's always nice to have adults around when medical things happen, especially late at night or first thing in the morning. And we really appreciated David's expertise on the locker situation!
