July 31 is Harry Potter's birthday, and the Heber Valley Railroad ran a special wizard train to celebrate the day. When we rode the Heber Creeper for my birthday, we decided it could be fun to bring the kids back for the Wizard Train. Rachel and Gabe thought that sounded like a lot of fun; Michael stayed home so he could go to football practice (to which he rode his scooter since we couldn't take him). After dinner, we headed up to Heber, got our tickets, and took advantage of the photo ops before it was time to board the train.
After getting going on the journey, Harry Potter characters came around to sort us all into our houses.
Rachel got sorted into Hufflepuff,
I got sorted into Gryffindore, and I don't remember how they sorted Brian and Gabe.
Rachel and Gabe had a lot of fun interacting with the characters. Rachel kept trying to stupefy Umbridge.
And she couldn't help being sassy to Draco and Bellatrix.
Brian and I laughed at all their antics.
We were promised chocolate frogs, but I must admit being a little disappointed by how small the frogs actually were. I guess when you're the kind of person who makes elaborate chocolate frogs for a birthday party, you're bound to be disappointed when people don't put in the same kind of effort for something like this. They were actually pretty perfectly portioned, actually.
We also got 4 Botts every flavor bean to try. I thought they skimped here as well because they passed out these little bags by family instead of by number of tickets, so some people got more and we had to share between the two of us. Again, it was just fine. Brian and I just let Rachel and Gabe have ours so that they could try two each. Rachel got weird ones so she was just fine only having the two.
At some point, I ended up singing along to the music they were playing, and Brian caught it on camera.
We had so much fun going on the Wizard train with Rachel and Gabe. They're so into Harry Potter right now, so that's pretty fun. Gabe also got me re-reading them in an attempt to encourage him to keep reading. He was in Book 4 during July, though I do think he finished it and started on Book 5.
