We have a pretty good view of our backyard neighbor's back yard, and so when we noticed a built-in deck cover with roof and all being constructed over their deck, we couldn't help but ask them about it. How much was it? Who was doing it? That kind of thing. We found out that our neighbor was the general contractor in charge of building it. We asked him to give us an estimate and decided that it was something we could do, especially because it was only a little more than the bid we got for a pergola, and it was WAY better. His crew got started in December and had the bulk of the structure all finished before the first snowfall.
Painting and the under fascia wouldn't be completed until early spring, but we were excited about the extra protection heading into winter. We thought it would eliminate snow on our deck. If only it didn't always snow sideways here. And speaking of snow....
