Michael turned 13 in October. THIRTEEN!!!! How did we get here already?! Thirteen meant a birthday date with Mom and Dad, and Michael wanted to go to the BYU Bookstore. I guess it's called the BYU Store now. So, we went to the BYU Store. We found lots of fun things at the BYU Store.
I realize that Michael got the browsing gene that I got from my dad. He could have looked around for hours there! And he did.
He found this hat that he really liked, and it came with these weird ornament frame stickers, so naturally I made him take a picture with them before allowing him to throw them away.
The next day, Michael had a low key friends party with friends. We ordered them pizza, and they all hung out. We decided this was a good idea for turning 13. They hung out outside.
And most of them brought gifts, which I wasn't expecting.
Danny won the award for best card: "Congrats on turning 13. You're finally a teenager. P.S. (it's not that great.)
That night, before bed, we took our traditional "last night being..." picture. This is the very last picture of 12 year-old Michael.
I mean this one is.
Nope, this one.
The next morning, we were officially parents of a TEENAGER!!! (Even though we've considered him a teen for a year or so now). We were really excited to give him his presents.
First up, tickets to a BYU Football game with Mom, Dad, and a friend.
And a box with cool stuff that we don't really remember anymore.
And....
A screen protector and case for NOT his Gabb phone? What? Did Mom and Dad make a mistake?
Last present....
A Pixel 6a?! WHAT?????!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!
Michael was so excited to have a phone that allows a few more apps than Gabb. Well, a phone where Mom and Dad allow a few more apps than Gabb. We're still keeping it pretty locked down.
Michael wanted a lemon cake this year, so a lemon cake is what we did. It was pretty good, even if the decorating wasn't exactly stellar.
We had most of our Utah County family crew come celebrate with us.
After cake, we played Quiplash on Jackbox Games. This was the favorite quip:

Rachel- It lays down outside and barks indoors.
Everyone knows how crazy Lara's dog is, so that one took the round, no contest. Sorry Rachel. Yours was good too.
On his birthday, Michael was about the same height as Nana.
We love spending time with family!
Michael, we are so unbelievably proud of you! We're so grateful that you came into our lives thirteen years ago. You have brought us so much joy, and we are honored to be your parents, even if you keep growing after we ask you not to. We love you so much!!!
