Taryn's Baby Shower

Taryn has 2 little boys and was pregnant with her first girl. One day, she texted me saying, "I feel dumb, but I really want a sprinkle." What is a sprinkle? She said it's a mini baby shower. Huh. Well, as I was in the process of throwing a baby shower for one of my good friends who was pregnant with her 6th baby and 1st girl, I told her I didn't think it was silly. BUT, due to said planning of baby shower and the rehearsal dinner and Cassidy's bridal shower, I just couldn't swing it before her baby was due, and I felt pretty bad about that. So, she ended up taking matters into her own hands and arranged for my sisters, mom, and grandma to get pedicures together at a local beauty college in Ogden the day after Cal's wedding (since we were all in town.) It was so perfect! How often do we get to have a lady's day with all my sisters, mom, and grandma? NEVER!

After pedicures, we got lunch together at Goodwood BBQ. It was such a great afternoon! I told everyone that Rachel would insist on getting her toes painted too, once I got home. She noticed my toes first thing. The next thing I know:
How can a mom resist that?
Emily, who was staying at my house, rode up to Odgen with me, and we picked up my Grandma from my uncle's house in Kaysville on the way. Pete and the boys picked her up at the restaurant, and so I got to ride back with just my Grandma.  I wish that our ride had lasted longer. I grew up just around the corner from Grandma, so I feel like I know her really well, but we had the best conversation on that ride. I wish that I'd had been able to record the conversation to remember everything. She had so much wisdom, sharing experiences from when she was a young mom. She talked about how certain things left her with a little baggage, affecting later events. Baggage similar to baggage that I carry. Most of it centered around children and having children. It's so easy to see her as the amazing woman who makes the best cherry pie--really any baked goods--who works hard and has a good groove to life, to see her as my grandma. But for that short ride in the car, it was like I got to go back in time and see her more as a fellow young mom, just trying to navigate this thing we call life. I drove away feeling so blessed to have this wonderful woman in my life, the woman who paved a path for me to follow. She's been where I am now, and it was as if she was saying, "It's going to be okay. You've got this!"
