Finishing Up the School Year

With the new school year on the horizon, I probably should finish up blogging about last year, right?

On May 18, Rachel had her preschool program. There was pomp and circumstance, as well as graduation hats, but I refuse to call it a graduation. Think The Incredibles. It becomes more and more apparent all the time that Rachel loves to be onstage. She doesn't need everything to be about her. She's not a Prima donna, but she loves to perform. It was especially clear at her program.
Here's Rachel delivering her part in the program.
We were surprised that our normally quiet-voiced little girl could muster such a big voice in front of the crowd.

She loved her teacher Miss Angela, so I guess I will try to forgive her for not getting her name right during the program. (She called her Rachel Deville.)
Some pictures with friends:

Rachel had her last day of preschool on May 23. She loved it all so much. She's so excited to start again after Labor Day.
Our elementary school always does a year end dance festival. This year, the first grade danced to "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast.  (In this picture, you can only see the side of his face. He's in between a blonde girl wearing a gray "won der ful" shirt and a boy with glasses who was wearing a black shirt and red hoodie.) I didn't get the best viewing angle, but he did a great job.
One day, during the last week of school, Michael started crying. I asked him what was wrong, and he said, "I don't want to go to second grade!" He said that he was worried he would get a mean teacher. I said, "You can handle a mean teacher; you have a mean mom!" He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "You're not a mean mom." That was a relief to hear! His tears just told me how much he loved his teacher, Mrs. Ruoho. She made this year so much fun for him, and I will always be grateful for her.

On the second to last day of school, I had my studio's piano recital. Michael performed his original composition, "Alien Invasion"

Here's me with all of my students, minus one who couldn't make it.
I love these kids so much. I pray for them and pray that I can be a good teacher for them. I love seeing them grow and make progress, and I was so proud of them that night.

The next day, Michael had two hours of school and then summer officially began at our house.
