The Easter Bunny comes to our house on the Saturday before Easter. My parents started this tradition so that we wouldn't be as distracted on Easter morning and be able to focus on the real reason we celebrate Easter: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So, after a fun night at the Ball, Brian and I came home late and got to work filling eggs and putting their (and our) baskets together. We even threw one together for Ethan, who arrived at our house just after I hid his. The last two years, we haven't hid Rachel's basket. But, I figured that if I picked a really easy spot, she would find it without any problems and be excited about it. I picked the pantry because they always head there first thing in the morning.
We woke up and they had found Ethan's basket, but not theirs. They had fun opening some of the eggs on the floor and eating the candy inside, and didn't seem too concerned with finding their baskets. They had gotten themselves cereal, and other things out of the pantry but totally missed seeing her basket there. With a little encouragement, they found their baskets and enjoyed the surprises inside:
See the Easter carnage?
They were beside themselves excited when Ethan got up. They missed him like crazy. At 10 a.m., we turned on General Conference and headed downstairs to work on the basement and listen while we worked. Ethan stayed upstairs to watch it on TV, and the kids stayed with him. He probably didn't get much out of it, but that was the most we've been able to listen in awhile, and it was much needed! I've been so spiritually starving due to wrestling kids during Sacrament meeting and then wrestling kids more during the next two hours of nursery that the messages of Conference were like a deep, cool well to a thirsty traveler. My two favorite talks from the first session can be found here and here. We loved having Ethan with us, and we loved having a whole weekend to focus on Jesus Christ and his gospel.
