It's the day before Thanksgiving, and I'm cold. My phone told me that it was 19 degrees at one point early this morning, I think around 6 a.m., which means that it got even colder than that at some point today. It's a little crazy to think that not too long ago, it was really, really hot in a month known as July.
But there we were, back in July. It was warmer than it is now. Much warmer. And just like right now, I was trying to build my business by posting more on social media, especially pictures of me in an attempt to be more personal. This is how I feel about posting pictures of myself:
I think Brian feels the same way. Nonetheless, on the first day of July, I was all dolled up for Church, so I had Brian take a picture of me for my social media accounts to do a birthday week special.Behind the scenes to that front yard shoot:
Of course, I couldn't have sparklers out and not let the kids light some too.
Gabe loves sparklers, and he made us a little nervous. It's nice to be safely on this side of these pictures.
We decided to give Gabe burritos a try.
I finally found a hair-stylist again. I'd been going to Fantastic Sams for almost a year, and I kept getting frustrated that my hair could never be done consistently. I know that everyone knows that I highlight my hair, but I don't like it to be so obvious by having such changing color things happening. So, in preparation for my birthday, I booked an appointment at a real salon with a consistent hairdresser. She took notes so that next time, she could do it the same way. Don't worry, I didn't post this one on my social media account!
Alisa and Jared were in town for the week of the 4th, and we must have met up with them at some point since we have this picture of Rachel and Ella. I just don't remember what we did.I turned 33 this year, and so I got presents in July.
And Brian made me a cheesecake
And I got more sparklers!!We went to an early dinner at Goodwood Barbeque with Ethan and his girlfriend, Erika. Then, Ethan and Erika watched our kids so that we could go to Stadium of Fire to see One Republic, which was super nice of them considering that it was the 4th of July.
The pomp and circumstance for the 4th wasn't quite as moving as last year, but I still loved it. When the concert started, we were a little disappointed that we couldn't see the band from our seats due to their placement behind these huge towers on the stage. It took me a couple of songs to get over it and start enjoying the concert, but once I did, it was SO AWESOME!
And I loved seeing the fireworks!
The next day, it was back to life as usual.
Yeah right. We were still partying because now it was Kirt's birthday!! I made him dinner and a cake and brought it to him. Here are the July 4/5th Saville birthday kids:
Rachel took advantage of their mini-gym and got a work-out while we were all partying.
And Gabe took advantage of the extra kids running around to break the rules and head to the streets on a trike.
I even remembered to take a picture with Ethan (the nephew, not the brother mentioned earlier) for the family calendar.We--well I--decided that it was time to put Gabe in his own room and in a twin-size bed. He had started taking his diaper off, and we needed to get prepared for potty-training. Step one was to get him sleeping in a big bed. This meant he needed his own room. So, we rearranged rooms, set up the bunkbeds so Rachel and Michael could share a room again, and said farewell to this changing table.
We used the crib mattress for padding in case Gabe fell off his new bed. I don't know if he ever needed it.
Fun fact, Gabe is still not potty-trained, but he does a good job of going to bed in his bed at night.
We had a lot of time to hang out together in July.
Sometimes, everyone goes to the hair salon to get haircuts, and other times, I cut the boys' hair. Salon Saville was open for one day in July.
Here's a shout-out to the hair from the 90s:
The kids found my phone and had some fun taking pictures with those photo booth filters.
Rachel built this Lego house.
We decided to make face masks with plaster strips. First, we needed to protect the hair with plastic wrap and the face with lots of petroleum jelly.
Then, I carefully placed the strips over their little faces.
After drying for a few days, the kids painted them and decorated them.
Michael is such a good big brother. Rachel has never really been interested in riding bikes, but one day, Michael convinced her to go out and try. I wonder how this whole thing might have played out if we lived on a flat street instead of a hill. Michael helped Rachel practice pedaling up the hill.
Gabe wanted to ride bikes too, but he was also struggling with the hill.
Good thing Gabe has such a good big brother.
One day, Gabe found the lotion bottle and applied it liberally to his hair. This little boy!
We did some baking, and the kids enjoyed sharing the mixing spoils.
We had more of this:
And Gabe got another bump on the head, this one coming with a small cut that refused to stop bleeding until Lea fixed it with some super glue.
That same day, we celebrated 7-11 day by getting a free slurpie at 7-11. The jazz band from Lea's school was playing there, so we got a picture with Lea's co-worker/boss, Dave.
Dress-ups took on a whole new level.
Gabe was my laundry assistant. Sometimes he was helpful, and sometimes, he would just put the dirty rags into the dryer or into the baskets with the clean clothes.
We made a trip down to BYU, and Rachel fell asleep on the way, which rarely happens anymore.
And we had a little fun with some spirit wigs.
And then, must have froze over because....
