Reunited!

As soon as I woke up, showered, and dressed on Wednesday, July 22, I headed up to Ogden to get my babies. I've always been good at letting my kids go. I don't have a problem leaving them with sitters, or even over night with family. I probably would have been just fine with a week. But, 17 days was just too long! I missed them like crazy, my heart often catching in my throat when we skyped them,  and I had to force myself to not go to Ogden as soon as we landed in Salt Lake. I couldn't get there fast enough.

When I pulled up to Chelsea's house, Michael came running outside, and Rachel was there too. I hugged them. I kissed them. Michael was so excited to tell me everything. Rachel was too. Michael showed me how he had learned to pump on the swing while I was gone. I gave the Chelsea and her kids the presents we got for them, and they were all excited. I didn't stay long--I'm pretty sure Chelsea was ready to have her house to herself again. Chelsea and I loaded the car, and I tried to express just how grateful I was to her for watching over my most precious treasures while I was gone. They were in the best possible hands, and I was so grateful.

We headed to Lehi to have lunch with Brian. Michael talked my ear off. I only remember him saying one thing, "Mom, I'm glad that you're the one that picked me up because I missed you the most." Sometimes, I wonder if I'm enough as a mom. That day, I knew. It's not that he doesn't love his dad. It's just that I'm there for everything. And he missed that. He missed me.

Adobe had food trucks that day, so that's what we ate. The kids were SO happy to see their dad, and it was so nice to have our family all back together.
Towards the end of our trip, things had started to take a toll on Rachel. She is not a cuddler, but she was more clingy with Chelsea, missing being held. In the weeks that followed our return, she was extra clingy and would kind of panic if I walked away without her.

Michael and Rachel were so happy to be back at their house, in their beds, and with their toys. At times like that, I always think, "Dorothy had it right; there is no place like home."
