June 4: A Much Needed Sea Day

(Written by Devri on 6/4/25)

We all took full advantage of our sea day today. We didn’t set an alarm, and some of us didn’t even make it to the breakfast buffet before it closed. It was fantastic. I had fallen asleep really early last night since I wasn’t feeling great (I think something I ate didn’t settle well). I woke up at 7 and thought I should just get up since I’d slept long enough, but I fell back asleep again. I woke later and tried reading in bed so as not to disturb Brian, but fell asleep reading. Finally, around 9:40. I sat up and tried to get Gabe to get dressed to so he could go to breakfast before it closed, and in trying to talk to Gabe, Brian woke up and got up. He ended up taking Gabe up to breakfast. Turns out that the buffet didn’t close until 11, and I sauntered up a little after 10, once I got our laundry put away (it got returned last night).

After loading my plate up with food, I found Brian talking with Lara and Greg at a table. Brian had gotten me some cheese and fruit, just in case the buffet closed before I got there, so after I happily helped myself to that as well. We talked at the table for awhile, and then Kirt and Julie found us. By then, the buffet had closed, and Julie decided to hang out with us until it opened.

We ended up to moving to a table in the very back of the ship so we could watch the wake. When the buffet opened again at noon, we all got something to eat. Michael had also found us. Lara suggested to Michael that he pick her something to eat. Greg had started this game on the last sea day. Michael disappeared for a bit and came back with a plate of sugar, salt, and some pepper, arranged in a little artistic curve for her to eat. Good thing Greg had gotten her something real!

Mom and Rachel eventually found us back there, and we talked for a bit before deciding to move on to something else. Brian had disappeared before we moved Aft; I thought he was checking on Gabe or something, but he was gone for awhile, and someone mentioned that he was at the gym. Next thing I knew, Lara said she was going to go lay out in the sun with Brian up on deck 16. I didn’t even know Brian was up there!

I changed into a swimming suit in my mom’s room, since our housekeeper was still cleaning my room, and then I gathered a towel, my AirPods, iPad, and phone, along with chargers for my phone and watch, and then went to find Brian and Lara. I did message Brian to see if he had the sunscreen, which he did.

I lathered up on the sunscreen and then enjoyed sitting in the sun and typing up what we’d done the last couple of days. I caught up on messages, and then I listened to a church history podcast while we watched the ocean waves. Gabe and Rachel checked in with us throughout the afternoon, and Gabe got Lara and Brian to go down the slide with him. After they got back from their slide adventures, Lara left to go take a shower. Brian went to go get lunch, and then I went to go get second lunch—-because we’re on a cruise and why not? I ran into Michael while I was down there; he was eating a piece of pizza.

Eventually, we decided to head back to the room. We found Greg, Michael, and Gabe playing ping pong on our way back to the room, so we watched them play for a few minutes before hitting up the elevator.

I read on the balcony while Brian took a shower, and then I showered. I was feeling pretty good about figuring out a way to shave my legs in the tiny shower by putting a towel over the toilet and resting my feet on the toilet while turning the water away so it wouldn’t spray all over the bathroom, and I ended up cutting my leg in around 5 or 6 different places. I had a new razor and apparently wasn’t as careful as I should have been. I got out of the shower and tried to find a bandaid from my everyday water-bottle bag, but we must have already used them up. Brian had to get in my big suitcase to find our first aid kit and bandaids so I wouldn’t get blood all over everything.

We enjoyed calm, beautiful water the entire cruise

Gabe, Michael, and Greg had ended up playing basketball at the Sports Court, and Greg left them there playing soccer before dinner. Gabe had forgotten his water bottle up there before heading down for dinner, and as of 9:21 p.m., we have been unable to locate it. Hopefully, it makes its way to guest services by tomorrow morning.

We headed to dinner and all talked about how wonderful it was to do absolutely nothing today! Michael and Gabe were late, so Brian went up to the sports courts to retrieve them. Greg and Lara told me that Michael had eaten 1st dinner with them and had told them he wasn’t going to come to dinner. Thankfully, he came when Brian asked him to come. He ordered fruit and dessert, and I was great with that. He’s been so great on this trip so far (despite the fact that he told me that his favorite part of yesterday was when he was asleep at 2 a.m.)

A photographer came by and wanted to take our pictures, and Lara and Greg posed with a ridiculous pose of Greg kissing Lara’s cheek and Lara pretending to be disgusted by it. They photographer didn’t know how to take that, and then Michael and Greg tried to do the same pose, but Michael was laughing to hard to really go in too close to Greg’s cheek. It made us all laugh.

The dining servers did a little dining wide dance presentation thing that we couldn’t really see because we weren’t in the main section of the dining room, so we did our own little Conga line while the music was blasting near the end of dinner, and Michael took the opportunity to Conga right out of the dining room and up to his room. Gabe left not too long after to get ready for bed, and then I went up to read a chapter in Percy Jackson.

Conga!

We get into port around 1 tomorrow, so we made plans for eating breakfast in the restaurant in the morning. It’s really strange that we only have one more full day of this cruise. It’s been so fun!
