This spring, Michael really wanted to do track--and soccer. We cautioned him about the extra time it would take, that he already had a lot going on, but he was insistent, so we agreed. I had some serious concerns going into this, which proved completely valid and right, but I loved being back on the track, even if it was from the bleachers. It was so fun to be at a track meet again!!! They were allowed to do up to 4 events. I tried to get Michael to do the 800, the longest distance for his age, but he refused and decided to do sprints, long jump, and javelin. He surprised us by how well he did with the long jump.
Gabe enjoyed running around the bleachers during Michael's meets. And thankfully Papa and Nana could make it to a few meets to help entertain Gabe. We lost him at one of our meets; it was pretty scary. He wandered off over a hill when we were watching Michael run. Papa, Brian, Aunt Cassidy, and I were all looking for him. I was so happy when I saw that little thing again!
Michael was ready to quit track after the first practice--or maybe after the first week, but we reminded him about how we told him that if he signed up for track, he had to go for the entire season. The regional track meet (aka the last track meet) was on June 1, but I'm still including it here to be concise. Michael participated in the javelin throw
He did really well, but we all breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't qualify for State. We were all over the fight that was Track.
Track made soccer a little tough as well. Practices were the same night as track, and so Michael had to run from one to the other. He really didn't like that. But, he did really, really well. IT's been so fun watching him grow over the years.
We sure love and appreciate Coach Joy for all she does for Michael.
